Invisible Debris
In the project 'Invisible Debris' I explore which images fit the phenomenon of digital waste. As a society we are digitizing at a rapid pace, but we are only limitedly aware of its physical impact. Much data remains unused, is waste, stored in data centers that use energy, water and cause emissions. How do we make this digital waste tangible and sensible within our field? In this research project I will talk to fellow designers, design agencies and organizations to find out where they experience digital waste in their projects. I analyze these conversations, look for metaphors, themes and translate these into initial visualizations. A good visualization helps both to make the problem tangible and to see the solution.
